Itty Bitty Camp

This summer I wanted to register both kids for an activity.  So far everything has been for Ellie – soccer, music class, art class, gymnastics, and soon dance class.  Poor Oliver just tags along but seems happy doing so.  I’d heard about Itty Bitty Camp through a local moms group.  The class meets once a week at Discovery Park, a huge natural area park, to explore meadow lands, ponds, wetlands and the plants and animals that live there.  It was the perfect activity that both kids could enjoy at their own pace.  We started in May and it’s hard to believe that this is our last week already.  We’ve been to Discovery Park a few times but mostly to the beach or a short walk along whatever path is closest to the parking lot.  This class took us to so many amazing places that I would never have known about.  My favorite day was exploring the Utah Wetlands.  Although the Wolf Tree Trail, Lower Meadow, Pond, and of course the beach were also pretty awesome.  Basically it was all really fun.

A few times I was able to bring the camera along and take a few shots of the class (while shooing bugs away from Ellie and stopping Oliver from falling into the pond).  Here are some of the fond memories:

Oliver, looking like a little boy, running around the meadow in search of flowers.

Zoe, our guide/teacher/fearless leader’s daughter, navigating through the 4-foot tall grass.

Despite the fact that this is during his naptime, Oliver loves being outside running around.  The beach was no exception.  I needed a flash or reflector or something that day.  But I was lucky I managed to bring out the camera with my hands full of shoes, buckets, shovels and shells.

Oliver and Lily, the youngest ones in class, headed back for snack and story time.

Lisa reading a story that goes along with the day’s theme while sweet little Lula enjoys her snack.  Amazing how 10 kids all get quiet, munching on snacks and listen to the story…of course it only lasts for about 2 minutes if that.

Max (one of four Max’s in the class!) all ready to coat his pinecone in sunflower butter and seeds to make a bird feeder.

After the art project it’s time to sing the goodbye song.  It will be sad to sing our last goodbye song but I hope make another session if it isn’t already full.  We’ve met great new friends and learned so much (I had never heard of stinging nettle before).  So thank you to Jennifer and Lisa for sharing so much with us!
